As the fuel retailers industry manoeuvres through an ever-changing landscape, the Fuel Retailers Association will once again host their ‘Unity in Action - Changing Landscape’ Conference on the 18th & 19th September 2019 alongside the important Automechanika Trade Show at Expo Centre in Johannesburg - South Africa’s leading international trade fair for the Automotive Industry, targeting visitors from the sub-Saharan region.

Fuel retailers and members of the FRA and stakeholders will gather to hear how the 4th Industrial Revolution and Artificial Intelligence will affect their future businesses, learn about all the new retail practices from around the world and grapple with the challenges in skills and SMME transformation.

According to Reggie Sibiya, CEO of the FRA, “never before has our industry been at such a crucial crossroads – not only having to embrace the future age of Artificial Intelligence, electric cars and green energy – but finding innovative ways to incorporate those capabilities into their operations in what is an ever changing technological, economic and socio-political landscape.”

To give a global perspective, the FRA is proud to have as its key-note speaker Marc Wohltmann, Director for the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Europe – a thought leader and strategist who will elaborate on current and future global industry issues, outline the big disruptors and propose the solutions that are being formulated internationally.

Mark Wohltmann’s keynote presentation will feature exclusive insights from the most recent NACS Global Issues Survey on technology and will look at trends and disruptors as well as examine how emerging technologies could change the way consumers interact with the C-store, that may fundamentally change the face of fuel retailing and forecourt convenience as we know it.

“We at NACS” says Mark Wholtmann, “are proud to support platforms like the FRA Conference that bring together the industry on the ever increasingly relevant and disruptive topic of technology and digitalisation. NACS, as the only global association for convenience and fuel retailing, support an open and proactive exchange of the supplier- and retailer communities from within our industry to advance our entire industry globally.”

The FRA 2-day Conference will unpack important developments in the industry –both locally and internationally - and give delegates the opportunity to network with a broad range of industry stakeholders.

Conference delegates will have the opportunity to visit the Automechanika Trade Show which runs from the 18 – 21 September – the largest business platform for the automotive aftermarket sector on the African continent.

The FRA is happy to announce the participation by key stakeholders at their conference. These include but not limited to: Minster of Higher Education, Dr. Blade Nzimande, political analyst, Professor Mcebisi Ndletyana, officials from Department of Minerals and Energy and Department of Trade and Industry, Ms Peeranut Phuttal from Western Digital (Thailand) and various players in Franchising and SMME development arenas. We are still awaiting confirmation from the office of the Minister of Minerals and Energy. The conference also includes panel discussions on how we advance Fuel and Convenience Retailing, SMME and job creation and poverty alleviation through the launch of Rounda - an initiative supported by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
