Pumps at numerous filling stations in Gauteng are reported to have run dry due to problems at two major plants.

The Fuel Retailers Association says a Durban refinery has shut down for plant maintenance.

There are also disruptions at SAPREF - a joint venture between Shell SA Refining and BP Southern Africa. This means two main depots have been affected in Gauteng.

The association's Chief Executive Officer Reggie Sibiya says he is not sure when the problem will be resolved.

Motorists have expressed their frustration.

"We are stuck. I don’t even know where to go now…" says one motorist.

Another motorist says, "It’s worse than load shedding. I don’t even know what this is coming to but it’s really disappointing."
